Summary

Chapter 24 opens with Ry, Ron, Claire and Polly D stuck in the replica 1950s pub in the tunnel system under Manchester near Victor Stein’s lab. Polly questions Claire why she is looking forward to a longer life on earth when, in death, she will get to meet her lord. Claire says that many of the men of the Old Testament lived long lives, including Methuselah who lived to be 969. The thought of “Bible-belt hellfirers” and homophobes living a longer life makes Ry nervous (310). Ry tells the group that nothing we do to our bodies is without consequence and that prolonging death will have consequences too. Then Ry explains the consequences they have lived with, including a lifetime of hormone supplements and a shorter life.
