Importance: Violet says this to herself during her first mat fight with Imogen on the mat. This piece of advice from her mother doesn't work and she ends up getting her arm broken. Ironically, Imogen lets emotion in: she is angry that Violet's mom killed her parents, and she lets her emotions in, and wins. This quote is foreshadowing Violet's mother's flaws in terms of emotional coldness and numbness.
