Part Three: The Foot Soldier: Chapters 57 - 64 Summary

When Alex gets home after the weekend with Jamilla, he finds Nana awake, and one look at her face tells him something is wrong. She dodges the issue, asking him about his weekend, but then confesses to pain in her chest and shortness of breath. She admits having seen a local doctor named Kayla Coles, and reminds Alex that she is eighty two. Later, unable to get it out of his mind, Alex goes upstairs to work on the army case again, reviewing old cases with similarities when he hears footsteps on the stairs. Damon bursts in and begs Alex to come and help his friend Ramon who has been doing Ecstasy. Though he is only twelve years old, Ramon's parents are musicians and addicts.
