Chapters 7 - 12 Summary

In Chapter 7, it is revealed that Lady Helen Clyde's oldest sister, Iris, lives in the United States. Harry Rodger, Pen's husband, finally comes home. He and Pen squabble which upsets the children. Harry leaves for his rooms at Cambridge. Rodger is a lecturer at Cambridge who has rooms there. Pen feels oppressed by motherhood. She feels as though she gave up her entire self just to have children, which is what Harry wanted. Harry is not equipped to deal with Pen's postpartum depression and is unable to care for the twins and a newborn alone.
