Summary

In Chapter 4, the "sailing syndicates" participating in America's Cup received the dates for the upcoming race (53). The syndicates would also meet for their drinking club in the evenings. Though these meetings were meant to be secret, everyone including Fortney and Leeds, members of the police Harbor Unit, discovered the location on Shelter Island Drive.

Fortney and Leeds watched the scene, intrigued by a "huge Kiwi" named Miles, and Blaze Duvall (57). Blaze sat amidst the sailors, flirting and joking. She wanted to gain Miles’ trust. He ran the crane that put Black Magic, the boat Ambrose wanted destroyed, in the water" (60).

Meanwhile, Ambrose watched another crane operator named Simon Cooke drink "in a neighborhood tavern" (60).

Blaze dismissed herself to call Ambrose. Ambrose told her she had to "cement" friendships with both Miles and Simon (62). Simon was headed her way. Fortney and Leeds kept watching...
