Summary

In "Prologue," on December 7, a sailing yacht named France 2 was mysteriously trashed on Pearl Harbor day.

In Chapter 1, Dawn Coyote rang Blaze Duvall’s doorbell. Both women worked as masseuses. Dawn also worked on the streets, and was involved with a pimp named Oliver Mantleberry. Dawn begged Blaze to borrow money. Because she was short on money and knew Dawn was an addict, Blaze reluctantly loaned the money.

Meanwhile, a cop named Letch Boggs "sat dozing in his unmarked vice car" (9). He was waiting for Dawn because she worked for Oliver. Finally Dawn “emerged from a doorway" (12). Letch watched her get into Oliver's car and "followed her at a safe distance" (12).

Blaze received "a telephone call from number sixty-three" (13). He was one of her clients, and preferred to be called by the number. The job had come through her boss, Serenity Jones...
