Summary

Chapter 4, “Tuesday, April 28,” focuses on the day stated in the chapter title. In the morning, Anthony had a phone call with a neighborhood woman, who recounted the events of the previous night. The unrest had grown, and many people had expressed anger by vandalizing local buildings and businesses. As vandals approached Shake & Bake’s street, a group of local boys and young men had defended the area by standing on front of the restaurant and announcing that the businesses on the street were all Black-owned. The boys had mostly been teenaged Shake & Bake employees. On Tuesday morning, Anthony felt inspired when he saw a video on the news of a young girl cleaning up debris from the night’s unrest. Meanwhile, Jenny was trying to manage illegal lack of cooperation from police, who were holding arrested protesters without following proper record-keeping and legal procedures...
