Summary

Chapter 3, “Monday, April 27,” focuses on the day stated in the chapter title. It was the day of Freddie gray’s funeral. Over the past few days, peaceful protests had given way to anger and violence. Police clashed with protesters, and rioting had begun. The book gives further information about Greg’s past. Years prior, he was accepted to college on a basketball scholarship. However, due to unequal practices of weighting GPAs, students in Baltimore city were often given lower weighted GPAs than students in predominantly white suburbs. Greg lost his scholarship as a result of his GPA. The book then shifts focus back to the death of Tawanda’s brother, Tyrone. Tawanda recalls how, after Tyrone’s death, the police tried many underhanded methods of covering up the truth of how Tyrone died. The book then shifts focus to Billy at Gray’s funeral...
