Summary

Lukas learns to row from a man named Kaliel, showing him how to catch fish as well. One day, Lukas catches sight of Nina by the beach, and is uncomfortably attracted to her. She tells him that she is still working as a servant. Lukas thinks that his attraction to Nina shows that he must not be her brother. Lukas also receives the news that Dawid has died, pushing him to reminisce again. Lukas decides to go to the Long Kloof, and feels a sense of familiarity as he begins walking there.
