The Importance of Playing to One’s Own Strengths

The importance of playing to one’s own strengths is demonstrated through both of the protagonists, Isaac and Marco, although it is most clearly demonstrated through Marco. Marco is incredibly intelligent, but he decides that he wants to excel at sports in an effort to get his father to notice him and take pride in him. Therefore, he works really hard in the week before basketball tryouts to become a great player. When he finally makes a shot, he believes he may be on his way to college basketball. Marco is not gifted athletically, and the way he approaches learning basketball is not all that dissimilar to the way he works in school.
