Chapters 14-16 Summary

Ann wakes Kinsey early to ask her to stay with Ori while Ann goes to the hospital to see her father. Kinsey stays with Ori until Maxine, the housekeeper arrives. Kinsey overhears Maxine tell Ori how people in town are getting guns and chain-link fences to protect themselves from Bailey, afraid he might go on a killing spree or some such nonsense. Kinsey leaves the two women to their gossip and goes to visit Tap Granger's widow. Joleen Granger is nine months pregnant and chasing four small children through the house when Kinsey arrives. Kinsey asks Joleen if Tap had recently come into some money and learns that Tap told his wife he had won a bet with some guy.
