Summary

In Chapter 15, which returns to present day, James’ mother is dropped off at her hotel with plans to join the family the following day for breakfast. Before leaving, James follows his mother into the hotel. She finally tells him she came to Hawaii to make sure that he did not give up custody of his boys like Carlos was afraid he would do.

James believes Natalya is avoiding talking to him and that she does not like him. When he tells her he thinks they should try to get along Natalya says she does not agree with the decision he is making. She does not tell him the decision to which she is referring. Later, James watches as Natalya plays with Julian and Marcus on the beach. He feels out of place in the family that was once his own.
