Chapters 4-8 Summary

Raul wakes in Chapter 4, surprised to discover that he did not die. He finds himself in Endymion, the city from which his family had taken their name. An old poet, author of the famous Cantos poem, Martin Silenus, with the help of presumably the last android in existence, A. Bettik, have helped Raul escape execution.

Poulen treatments have kept Silenus alive over 300 years. He has used bribes and schemed to fake the execution to get Raul out of the hands of the Pax government because he has a job for Raul to do. Silenus is the uncle of the messiah, Aenea. Aenea disappeared in the Valley of the Time Tombs, in the Sphinx, 250 years ago, just days after her mother died. She will step out of the Sphinx in 42 hours, and Silenus needs Raul to retrieve her. She must be protected...
