Summary

In Chapter 9, David was dejected about the campaign. Efrén attempted to boost his friend’s spirits and David energetically insisted that they create a rap video to promote him. Efrén wanted to tell his friend about Amá but could not bring himself to do so. After school they went to David’s house, where he lived with his grandmother. David showed Efrén the new iPhone his mom sent him. His mother was an alcoholic whose relapses prevented her from caring for her son. When Efrén attempted to advise David on the video, he was defensive. Efrén said he needed to go and left with the twins.
