Summary

In “The Distributors,” Carl and his friend Kenny were looking for work. Carl lined up an interview for “construction work” for both of them, convinced Kenny would be happy (229). Shortly before the interview, Kenny ran up to Carl, announcing he had found them an opportunity to be representatives “for American Dynamisms Incorporated” (230). When Carl saw the company’s card, he was suspicious. When they arrived at the American Dynamisms building, the representatives acted strangely. Then they told Carl that he would have to participate in an initiation ceremony for Kenny at his home that night. During the initiation, Carl watched in horror as a machine turned men into seemingly robotic forms. Disturbed, Carl left. He met with the construction company, telling them that Kenny was “very sick” and would not be coming (241).
