Part I, Big John: Chapters 10 - 12 Summary

The two submersibles leave Soggy Acres and head to the ocean's surface. Al's sub pops up first, and instead of a wide expanse of empty water, a Chinese junk is very nearly on top of the small submersible. The men on the ship try hard, butthe gap is too small and the NUMA scientists barely manage to escape the sub before the junk lands on top of the pod, submerging it and sending it back to the bottom of the sea, unmanned. Al Giordino is devastated and frustrated. Now he keeps an eye out for the second pod, intending to commander it and take it back down to rescue Pitt and Plunkett.
