Summary

This graphic novel begins with the protagonist, Kiku, writing about her displacements, which she began experiencing in 2016. She does not consider the displacements to be just time travel because she travels through space as well. She has been in her current location for more than a year, and these displacements happen against her will. She is uncertain about whether she will ever be able to return to her real life.

Part 1 opens with Kiku and her mother in San Francisco, visiting. Kiku does not want to continue on, but her mother is determined to find the row house her family lived in in Japantown until they were sent to what they call incarceration camps with other people of Japanese descent in 1942.
