Chapter 24-27 Summary

In chapter 24, Bud is once again in the hospital. Civilians look at Bud as though he is a hero, but his own family is upset with him for putting himself in danger, and law officials investigating the incident seem to believe he failed to follow proper police procedure. Bud is cleared in the investigation, but not before it causes him a few minutes of concern for his career. Bud also learns that C.D. has been forced to retire. After being released from the hospital, Bud calls Holly and is once again pressured by her to tell his wife so that they can be together. At the same time, Bud learns of a growing movement around Oklahoma cheering on Lamar. In chapter 25, Lamar is lost in a dark storm of grief.
