Chapters 7-10 Summary

In chapter 7, Odell, Richard, and Lamar drive through the countryside with the Stepfords, until finally they pull over and drag the old couple out. Lamar takes Richard and marches the Stepfords across a field. Lamar then gives Richard a gun and orders him to kill the Stepfords. Lamar is testing Richard and is relieved when Richard pulls the trigger. However, the gun was not loaded. Lamar lets the Stepfords go. Back in the car, Lamar says they need to find a place to lie low. Richard offers a place he knows. In chapter 8, Bud wakes in the hospital. Bud was shot at close range with a shotgun, but the gun was loaded with birdshot, leaving Bud with many tiny wounds, but nothing lethal. Bud learns that Ted is dead.
