Summary

Magna taught at Lashington & Wiis, a university in the South. At night, she drank wine and took drives through the town. The streets were lined with "ornate Victorians" (187). She "almost never saw" students in the town while driving (187). One night, she raced home to her apartment, located on Main Street. When her apartment building was within view, something appeared in front of the car. Magna braked, but hit whatever had been in front of her. She heard a terrible sound. Terrified of what she had done, she kept driving.

Magna and her ex, Jamal, had started the habit of "watching television" and "drinking wine" together long before (188). Eventually Jamal stopped watching television. Then he stopped drinking and then he left Magna (188). Afterwards, Magna grew sad and anxious while watching television alone. The shows would make her sad, and she would cry and leave...
