The Harmon House

The expensive manor that the Harmons live in is a symbol of the wealth gap between them and the remainder of the town. All of the Harmons, and especially Marian, are often accused of a haughty superiority. The house that they live in serves as a physical representation of this attitude.

China Cups

The china cups that Jo inherits from her home's previous resident, Mrs. Glyther, are a symbol of the practical and headstrong way in which Jo lives her life. Though she does not like the china and considers it a waste of money, Jo feels that it would be wasteful and impractical to get rid of an item that she has received for free.
