Chapters 1-5 Summary

Deadline by Chris Crutcher tells the story of Ben Wolf, an eighteen-year-old high school senior who is dying from a rare blood disease. He decides to forgo treatment and live his last year to the fullest.

Chapter 1. Chapter one takes place in early August. The main character, Ben Wolf, intends to spend his senior year learning information that he can use in his future. He is from a very small town in Idaho that has only 943 citizens. He is very smart and has a good chance of getting into nearly any college that he wants to apply to. He is very aware that many people consider the senior year as a time to goof off, but this doesn't interest him.
