Summary

In Chapter 22, Clemency and Roger walked up to Charles and Sophia just after Brenda and Laurence were arrested. Clemency asked Charles if they would be allowed to leave for their trip since an arrest had been made, and Charles was surprised by her desperation to get away from the Leonides. At that same time, a car pulled up, bringing Josephine home.

Charles tried to talk to Josephine about the things that had happened since she had been in the hospital. Josephine already knew about the will. She had been listening when her grandfather told Sophia about the change. She also mentions that she heard what her grandfather said about her to Sophia. Their discussion was interrupted when Edith called for Josephine. Charles noticed Edith looked her age because of the worry and suffering on her face.
