Summary

In Part Three, Chapter 23, “What God Knew Before We Were Born, 1913, Parambil,” Big Ammachi grieves JoJo. She is furious to discover her husband visiting his wife’s ghost in the cellar. She becomes angry with the ghost, too.

Fourteen months later, Big Ammachi gets pregnant and miscarries.

When Baby Mol is five, Big Ammachi baptizes her after she narrowly survives the whooping cough.

Five more years pass. Baby Mol is the family’s salvation. Big Ammachi notices how she softens her father, too. Then one day, a passing boy notices something wrong with Baby Mol.
