Chapters 26-30 Summary

In Chapter 26, Katrina goes to Java Heaven to speak to Mr. Darling. Katrina witnesses an argument between Mr. Darling and his mother before she is able to speak to him herself. When she does, Mr. Darling tells her that he has rescinded his offer because he has decided to buy the building instead. When Katrina and her grandmother are unable to pay the rent, he will just evict them. Mr. Darling opens a door to the alley and asks Katrina to leave. A gust of wind causes some papers on his desk to blow outside. After he collects them, Mr. Darling rudely sends Katrina away. Outside, another piece of paper lands beside Katrina. It is a receipt for generic coffee.
