Chapters 9-10 Summary

In chapter 9, time for the raid has arrived. Coyote Runs is left with the extra horses and told to follow the raiding party as they return from stealing horses meant for the white soldiers. Coyote Runs becomes confused in the chaos after the raid, nearly driving the horses the wrong direction, but quickly recognizing his mistake and chasing after the raiding party. In time, Coyote Runs catches up with Magpie. Coyote Runs believes he can escape their bullets because one of the Mexican ranchers fired right at him and missed. Coyote Runs and Magpie catch up with the rest of the raiding party and continue toward home on fresh horses. Coyote Runs rides a beautiful white horse he hopes to make his own when they reach the village.
