Summary

Thomas wakes up in a pile of garbage, shocked that there are no bats attacking him. He gets out of the garbage can, wondering where the men who attacked him are. With no idea how long he has been out, Thomas rushes for his apartment to warn his sister. Thomas thinks about his past, believing that he was in danger because he wanted to help his depressed mother in New York after his father left her for a Filipino woman. He knows what he did to save her was extreme, but believes it was his only choice. After a moment, he charges through traffic and vaults into a park while thinking about how real the bat dream felt. Finally, he makes it home to see that it is 11 pm; only half an hour had gone by.
