Summary

In Chapter 11, Miss Bilphena made tea for Bitter and her friends. Bitter was surprised by how safe she felt. It normally took "weeks before she'd settle down" in new places (159). She thought about her arrival at Eucalyptus and her relationship with Miss Virtue. While talking with Miss Bilphena and Ube, Bitter started crying. She felt guilty and afraid. She did not want the angels "to hurt more people" (162).

When Aloe arrived, he was angry. He was offended that Bitter had not told him about the angels. He was hurt that she was speaking with Assata when she had spent so much time criticizing them. Bitter was surprised. She "hadn't been keeping secrets from him" (166). She simply had not expected her art world to collide with her life outside of it. She wished Aloe would set aside his feelings, because what they were facing...
