Summary

In Chapter 8, Bitter told Vengeance she did not want vengeance. She only “wanted Lucille to be safe” (113). Vengeance countered everything Bitter said. It said it was an angel who was there to “reset things again” (114). In order to create change, it said that things had to burn and people had to die. The angels were all coming to join the human hunters and kill the monsters. “Bitter was properly scared” (116). She did not want anyone getting hurt. She told Vengeance she wanted no part in its plans. Shortly after Vengeance left, Blessing “rushed in” (117).

Bitter and Blessing attended a vigil for Chijioke Jackson, a boy who had been killed during the protest. Bitter was surprised to see Eddie in attendance. Listening to Ube’s speech at the vigil made Bitter think about Vengeance. While Blessing and Bitter were hugging, Alex ran up. One...
