Chapter 16 Summary

The Blue Squirrel is crowded and the music is playing loudly. Agent Stowe is waiting when Eve arrives. Stowe asks how Eve found out about Winifred. Stowe begins to talk about her college days and Winifred. They became best friends, and after college Winifred went to Paris to live and work. They visited each other on and off. A few days before Winifred's death, she called Stowe who was too busy to return the call.

Stowe never informed the Bureau about Winifred or she wouldn't have been assigned to the Yost investigation. She admits to Eve that the FBI involvement allowed Yost to escape. Stowe tells Eve that the French authorities couldn't find any reason why anyone would put a high priced killer on Winifred.
