At one point a riverside is mentioned in the scene, presumably close to the crossroads that is at the heart of the poem. This is unusual because geographically, it limits the number of directions a crossroads can take. It is more prominent on a symbolic level as it represents a road that is constantly in motion, unlike a crossroads which is stationary. This echoes the way the speaker advises one to keep moving forward.
