Charleston

Charleston is the town in which the Locktons own a house. Because Charleston is being held by the British army, Isabel and Curzon decide to see if Ruth is staying at the Locktons' plantation before going into the city of Charleston to look for her.

Riverbend

Riverbend is the name of the plantation near Charleston where Isabel and Curzon find Ruth living with an elderly couple. The plantation is owned by the Locktons.

Rhode Island

Rhode Island is the state to which Curzon and Isabel hope to seek refuge once they locate Ruth. It is a state where blacks are allowed to live as free people.

Bedlam House
