Pages 153-177 Summary

Alexander thinks about Cass's insomnia when she was a baby. They used to take her on drives up the coastline to get her to sleep. When Cass gets older, she and her father take the same drive. One day, Cass gets Alexander to walk on the edge of a cliff with her side-by-side even though the cliff is not truly wide enough to support the two of them.

Alexander goes to the hospital to visit Dawn Devonport, who tried to kill herself by taking a whole bottle of pills. Alexander runs into Toby Taggart in the hall of hospital when he is leaving.

When Alexander gets home, he calls Billie Stryker and arranges a meeting with her on the banks of the river. Alexander asks Billie to find Mrs. Gray for him. He also starts to talk some more about Cass...
