Summary

In Chapter 1, Althea Carter drives her friend, Oliver McKinley, home from school. She is going as fast as possible because Oliver is falling asleep due to a sleeping sickness and she wants to get him into the house before he is asleep and won't be able to walk under his own power. Oliver undresses down to his socks and underwear so he is ready to fall into bed. Althea stays for a little while after Oliver falls asleep and looks at the mementos in his bedroom, all of which she has seen before because they have been friends since they were 6 years old.
