Daniel

Daniel is the main character and first person narrator of the novel. Daniel was born in Jamaica, and moved to Flatbush, New York with his mother and brother, Junior, when he was young. After his mother lost her job, she moved the family to Palm Coast, Florida to be nearer their extended family.

Throughout his childhood, Daniel often felt alienated and alone. He was surprised, therefore, when a white girl named Aubrey befriended him. Over the years, Daniel and Aubrey became closer. Though they spent all of their time together, Daniel always felt insecure about his feelings for Aubrey. Once he finally told her that he liked her, it was too late.
