Summary

In "Rivers," feeling hungover, Daniel gets fast food. He knows he should visit "Grandma's nursing home," but does not feel ready (55). While driving, he remembers high school days with Twig. He remembers spending time near the water. He remembers calling Aubrey to join him. He realizes how much he has missed the area. Thinking about the river, he also realizes how many of his memories "took place by the Intracoastal" (59). Rivers were also significant in his family members' lives. Throughout his childhood, Daniel always "dreamt of escaping" (61). He left his river "in search of safety" (61).
