Summary

Celine is quiet in Chapter 31. Everyone gets ready for presents because the family tradition is to open one present before Christmas Eve church services. Celine continues to massage her shoulder. Red is excited to get presents, but Celine collapses. Jackson takes her into the bathroom where she gets sick, and they call for an ambulance. Jackson calls 911 while Red takes the boys to the barn to get them out of the way.

In Chapter 32, the boys are playing in the barn. Red is worried about Celine but tries to focus on the boys. She feels guilty for not telling Jackson that Celine fell over earlier. Suddenly she sees the rat again. The boys start to crawl towards the haystacks towards it. The rat hisses, and Red goes to throw a rake at it to get it away from the boys. Her wind takes...
