Summary

In Chapter 41, Misbah remembers how withdrawn and sensitive Salahudin was as a child. She argued with his teacher, and stopped taking him to see a therapist. In Chapter 42, Noor spends the night in jail. During interrogation, she realizes that no one will believe anything she says. In Chapter 43, Sal calls his dad and begs him to get her out. In the holding cell, a man (Santiago) offers Sal friendly advice. In Chapter 44, Sister Khadija takes charge of Noor’s defense, and offers her a place to stay. In Chapter 45, when Riaz first asked her to babysit Noor, Misbah pointedly ignored all his instructions by speaking to Noor in Punjabi and cooking Pakistani food for her. In Chapter 46, Toufiq collects Sal from jail. Riaz comes by looking for Noor, and Sal follows him to Shafiq and Khadija’s house to confront him. Noor refuses...
