Summary

In Chapter 1, the eighteen-year-old Misbah was upset and afraid when her mother announced that it was time for her to get married. Her father tried to comfort her. In Chapter 2, Toufiq drops Salahudin off at school, assuring him that he will attend Misbah’s hospital appointment later that day. Sal is full of contempt for his father, who is drunk – too drunk to disapprove of or even notice his girlfriend Ashlee, waiting by the car. Sal’s phone is not working because Toufiq has not been paying the bills. Ashlee wants to talk and kiss, but Sal just wants to escape from her.
