Summary

The Prologue opens in Sunny’s point-of-view as she accidentally sets her hair on fire when she sees the end of the world in the flames of a candle. She says that her two older brothers and parents were born in Nigeria, but she was born in New York. She is also albino with green eyes, light yellow hair, and her skin burns in the sun. When she was two, she survived malaria and remembers seeing a small light before her recovery. Sunny has a very poor relationship with her father and cannot forget the vision she saw in the flames.

An excerpt titled “What is a Leopard Person” explains that anyone with magic abilities are Leopard people. There was a massacre 2,000 years ago after the crucifixion, but the people survived, and the massacre was covered up.
