Summary

Chapter 7 begins with Anjali waking the next morning, feeling like she can still smell the burnt clothes. She worries that now she will look like Anasuya in plain boring white clothes and what Suman will think. She thinks her mother should not have included her in this, but then also thinks it is unfair for Captain Brent to order them around. She eats breakfast and when her father talks to her about her mother, she rushes out the door to school.


There is a flower break at the end of page 55, then Anjali is in class, listening to Masterji recite a poem about the Queen of Jhansi, that the fires of revolution began and “we heard the courageous tale of the warrior woman, who fought like a man against the British invaders” (56).
