Grace, Control, and Ghost Bird consider what is going on in Area X. Time has become distorted, lengthened, then shortened. It is irrelevant, almost. The stars that shine at night, Grace remarks, are not the same constellations that they grew up with. Some of them were missing all together. They all wonder aloud at the 'purpose' of Area X. What is it's agenda if any? Control suggests that the purpose is clear. Area X wants to eliminate the virus that is mankind.

Ghost Bird tells them that she believes that the organism often has a purpose but can also make patterns that have nothing to do with that same purpose.
