Chapter 11 Summary

The men arrive in Waynesboro the next day, and after checking into their motel Bryson decides to go buy some insect repellant. Nonetheless, none of the shops near the motel sell it, so he makes an arduous trek on foot to the Kmart, involving walking on a busy road and falling down in the mud while trying to cross a creek. In the end, he finds that Kmart is out of insect repellant. When he returns to the motel, as grubby as if he had been on the trail, Katz announces that he has a date with a woman he met in the laundromat. Her name is Beulah, she weighs more than 200 pounds, and she is married, as Katz soon learns. Bryson is dining alone when Katz skulks into the restaurant.
