Aunt Georgiana

Aunt Georgiana is the central character of the story, despite the fact that her nephew Clark is the story’s narrator. Aunt Georgiana is a woman of about 60 years in age. She was born and raised in the city of Boston, Massachusetts, where she studied music and then worked as a music teacher at Boston Conservatory. One day, in the late 1860s, when she was about 30 years old, she went to Vermont to visit a small town where her ancestors had once lived. There, she met a local boy named Howard Carpenter. They soon fell in love, much to the chagrin of Georgiana’s family. Georgiana and Howard eloped and moved to Red Willow County, Nebraska, to farm and homestead. Life in Nebraska was very difficult, especially towards the beginning.
