Jefferson Hope

Jefferson Hope had been prospecting for silver, but his dreams changed once he met Lucy Ferrier. He saved her and her horse and quickly fell in love with her. He began visiting Lucy and John Ferrier frequently.

John and Lucy both were fond of Jefferson. Eventually, Jefferson asked Lucy to marry him, and she happily agreed. He said he would return in two months. However, when Jefferson was gone, Brigham Young told John that Lucy could not marry anyone who was not a Mormon. Young demanded that Lucy marry Stangerson or Drebber. When Jefferson learned about this, he returned to John and Lucy's house. He was willing to risk his own life in order to help them escape.
