Chapters 4 - 8 Summary

Chapter 4:

The narrator has finally realized his dream and has moved to Autun. He walks around town and wanders into a soccer game being played by some of the town's youth. He sits by himself and does not really pay attention to the game but is annoyed by how long it takes. Afterward, he goes to a cafe which he has hitherto only seen at night. He remarks how different it seems in daylights; its blemishes are much more visible. At night, he goes to a hotel bar that has music. Among the people there gathered are four youths he has seen before. One of them, a seventeen-year-old or thereabouts, is particularly good looking. The narrator wonders if he has started seducing women yet and imagines that he will be quite good at it. The thought of seduction makes his mind...
