Summary

Book Four: XII opens two days after Sylvie last sits for her painting as the west parlor is returned to its normal state. Sylvie is upset that Le Brun will not show her the portrait until he is paid because he wishes to leave. When Sylvie asks him to stay, he agrees, but only if Thisbe will be attending the dance. Sylvie says she will, but thinks it will only be as a servant. Later, Sylvie tells Lucien that they must pay Le Brun but Lucien says it is more important to impress the Tourniers so he can ask for a loan.
