Summary

In Chapter 6.1, as months pass, Willem continues to go out of town fairly often for work. Whenever he does, Jude watches Willem’s movies as a way of simulating Willem’s presence. One day, after Willem returns to America, Malcolm and Sophie come to visit. Willem drives to the train station to pick them up, but on the way back, a drunk driver hits Willem’s car. Willem, Malcolm, and Sophie all die due to the crash. Jude is emotionally devastated and wonders how he will go on without Willem. Jude goes through his routines with a depressed numbness and buries himself in his work. Among Willem’s belongings, Jude finds that Willem has carefully catalogued all of their correspondence and all photos of them.
