Summary

In Chapter 6, one of the files that Peter is assigned to read is written by Stavros de Jong. In his report, de Jong describes how he and his family went for a picnic on New Year’s Day. They returned to their car to discover someone had broken into the car and left a container of sub-miniature film. He developed the film himself though he realized when he saw what was on the film that it might have been the wrong thing to do.

The next memo is from Alec who was upset because Jong had sent a copy of his report to Joint. Alec wrote to Smiley asking if he could make it appear the information given to de Jong was fake. The information on the film included things such as names and ranks of KGB agents as well as minutes of meetings...
