Hut

After Nello's mother passes away, he is sent to a small village where his grandfather lives in a little hut. Together, Nello and Jehan live in the hut for many years with their beloved dog, Patrasche, who helps keep them inside the hut by pulling a cart into Antwerp every day, so they have money to afford their bills. After Jehan passes away and Baas Cogez spreads a rumor about Nello starting a fire in his mill, Nello and Patrasche are kicked out of the hut by the cobbler who owns it.

Cathedral

The cathedral is Nello's favorite place to go, and Patrasche's least favorite place to go. The dog does not like being left outside while Nello goes inside to look at the painting of the Virgin Mary by Ruben.
